Jódynur was composed in early 2015 for Náttey Ensemble's debut concert. The piece is inspired by an event that occurred on December 21st 2014, when twelve horses were found dead in the pond Bessastaðatjörn. For some reason they had run out on the pond which was covered in ice, that turned out to be too thin for the herd, with the obvious consequences. Jódynur is dedicated to these twelve purest of souls, may they rest in piece.
"Jór" is an old Icelandic word for "horse". "Dynur" means in this sense "hoofbeat". |
